DIANE NELSON, M.H.P.E., Board Certified Medical Illustrator, earned a Bachelor of Art Education degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Medical illustration and a Master of Health Professions Education degree from the University of Illinois. She completed graduate courses in Interactive Multimedia and Museum Exhibit Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Diane was a successful self-employed free-lance Medical Illustrator and Art Director from 1975 to 1985, illustrating medical textbooks and journals, anatomical charts, pharmaceutical ads, and creating original anatomical models. She art directed two editions of Human Anatomy & Physiology by John W. Hole, Jr., published by William C. Brown Publishers and was a Medical Project Manager for Systema Corporation from 1980 to 1985.

Diane founded BIOMEDIA Corporation in 1985 and served as President and Art Director until 1999, supervising the creative efforts of 9 artists. Biomedia created educational and promotional graphics for health professionals, patients, and the general public. Clients included publishers, medical institutions, professional medical associations, law firms, museums and audiovisual producers.

Diane served as Vice-President/Exec. Creative Director of the Anatomical Chart Company from 1999 until 2001 where she managed the pharmaceutical and chart production division of the world's largest chart producer. Responsibilities included staffing, market analysis for new product development, supervision of a 7- person graphic art staff, reviewing anatomical charts in development, writing proposals, department budgeting, approving equipment and software acquisition.

Currently Diane is a sole practitioner and owner of Nelson Studios and a principal in bioEDesign, a museum exhibit design and consulting company, specializing in health education.

Diane has been a professional member of the Association of Medical Illustrators since 1970, served as President and Chairman of its Board of Governors. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Visualization at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. Her work was included in The Healing Arts -The Best American Artists Look at Medicine Today and The Best in Medical Advertising and Graphics.

Diane's work has won many awards for creative excellence including Awards of Excellence from the Association of Medical Illustrators, Awards of Excellence from the Annual Rx Club Show, N. Y., a Certificate of Excellence from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and a Best of Show Award in Illustration at the Bio-communication Chicago Forum.
